Aqara vs Eve vs Sonoff — Best Smart Sensors (2026)
Pick the controller first, then the brand. These three brands do not share a radio: Eve’s sensors are Thread devices, Sonoff’s sensors are Zigbee, and Aqara sells both Zigbee and Thread/Matter models, plus a Wi-Fi presence sensor. A sensor that suits your detection task still fails if your hub cannot talk to its radio.

Notes on this table:
- The brands’ lists of supported hubs differ. Eve’s hub page names more models than Aqara’s P2 page, so check the maker’s own list for your exact hub.
- Eve Weather’s requirements list an Apple home hub; Eve describes other platforms as additions on top of that.
- Sonoff states that Philips, IKEA and Fritzbox Zigbee gateways are not supported for the SNZB-04P.
- Aqara’s US listing for the Motion Sensor P1 says it needs an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub and is not compatible with other brands’ hubs. Using Aqara Zigbee sensors on Zigbee2MQTT is supported by that project’s device database, not by Aqara’s own pairing instructions.
- A Thread border router is not the same as a Matter controller. Home Assistant’s Matter documentation also warns not to assume Matter support from a Thread logo. Eve Water Guard, for example, is described as a HomeKit accessory on Bluetooth and Thread, and its requirements do not list Matter.

Prices are list prices on the maker’s US store, checked 22 Oct 2026, in USD, for a single unit. Eve’s store did not expose a price in the pages reviewed, and some Aqara and Sonoff prices could not be retrieved, so those read “check price”. EU and UK prices differ. Accuracy and range figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent results.

Light sensing: the Aqara P1 has a built-in light sensor, and Aqara says the P2 adds one that can be used independently of motion (Aqara notes Alexa does not support it). Sonoff’s Gen2 SNZB-03PR2 reports illuminance with history, and Eve Motion lists a twilight setting.

- FP2: Aqara states it appears in HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home without an Aqara hub, and in Home Assistant through the HomeKit Controller integration. Its local automations apply only with other Aqara or Apple Home-compatible devices. It is not a medical device.
- FP300: Aqara’s battery estimates are up to 3 years in Zigbee mode and up to 2 years in Thread mode, from its lab’s test assumptions. Zigbee mode uses Aqara Home plus an Aqara hub’s Matter bridge. Thread mode uses a Matter controller with Thread. Zigbee2MQTT also lists the FP300.

What to buy
- Aqara: the widest range and both radios. Do not mix up the P2 (Thread) with the T1 (Zigbee) door sensor.
- Eve: fits a household whose hub already acts as Matter controller and Thread border router. The Eve app’s history and duration statistics need a connection through Apple Home, per Eve.
- Sonoff: fits Home Assistant users with a coordinator. Without Home Assistant, add the cost and setup of a Sonoff gateway or Matter bridge.

Limits of this comparison
- This page compares documented specifications and compatibility. It does not report hands-on measurements of detection speed, range, accuracy or battery life.
- Battery lives are manufacturer estimates that depend on settings. Aqara’s five-year figure for the P1, for example, assumes the LED indicator is off and a detection timeout of at least 30 seconds.
- Models and revisions change. Check the exact model number, hub list and firmware notes before ordering a multipack.

Can I mix Aqara and Sonoff sensors on the same Zigbee network?
On an open coordinator running Zigbee2MQTT, yes. That project lists both brands’ devices. On vendor hubs, no: Aqara documents pairing to its own hubs, and Sonoff documents its own gateways.
Do Eve sensors work with anything besides Apple Home?
Yes. Eve’s hub page lists Matter controllers with Thread border routers for Apple, Google, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant and Homey. Eve Water Guard is a separate case: its page describes a HomeKit accessory on Bluetooth and Thread.
FP2 or FP300?
The FP2 is mains-powered over Wi-Fi and can be used without an Aqara hub. The FP300 is battery-powered, runs on Thread or Zigbee, and also reports temperature, humidity and light. If you have no outlet near the mounting spot, or want it in a Thread or Zigbee system, the FP300 fits better.
Should I buy a Zigbee coordinator or an Aqara hub?
If you run Home Assistant, a coordinator gives you the open route for Sonoff and for Aqara’s Zigbee sensors that Zigbee2MQTT lists. For Aqara’s own apps, scenes and Thread support in one device, Aqara describes the Hub M3 as Zigbee hub, Thread border router and Matter controller.
