Zigbee and Thread devices are power-sipping. A Zigbee sensor draws 0.001W (coin battery powered). Mains-powered Zigbee devices (bulbs, plugs) draw 0.3-0.5W. Across 20 devices, that is 6-10W, or 144-240Wh per day.
Local control is non-negotiable. Off-grid homes often have limited or no internet. Cloud-dependent devices become useless without connectivity.
