Robot Vacuum Brands on Reddit: What 12 r/RobotVacuums Threads Say (2026)

These threads do not produce a brand ranking. Across 12 r/RobotVacuums threads posted between 15 Dec 2025 and 27 Sep 2026, commenters name different models for different homes, argue about reliability without data, and disagree about whether the subreddit’s advice can be trusted at all. This page quotes what was actually written, with links, and says where the evidence stops. It is a reading of a small set of threads, not a survey.

How the threads were chosen

• Source: the same 15 r/RobotVacuums threads used for Reddit’s favorite robot vacuums in 2026, picked from the subreddit’s top-of-year list and from buying-advice and news posts. They were not drawn at random.
• Sample: 12 threads. For 11 of them, the top-scoring comments (up to 100 per thread) were read. For the 10 May 2026 thread on advice quality, only the opening post could be retrieved. Three threads from the sibling page were not used here.
• Date range: threads posted 15 Dec 2025 to 27 Sep 2026; the latest comment quoted is dated 29 Sep 2026. Text was read on 23 Oct 2026.
• How text was read: Reddit blocks scripted JSON access, so comment text came from the public Arctic Shift archive of Reddit. Comments edited or deleted since may differ.
• Limits: only one subreddit was read; r/Roborock, r/Roomba, r/Dreame and r/ecovacs were not. Most comments in these threads are one person’s experience with one unit. Upvotes measure popularity within a thread, not accuracy. Brand-linked accounts are a concern raised in the threads themselves (below). Ecovacs and Shark barely appear in this sample, so no conclusion about them is drawn from it.

What stands out

• No single “best brand” appears. In the baby-and-dog thread, replies name a Dreame L50 Ultra, a Narwal Flow 2 and a Dyson “spot scrub” model. The sub-$500 thread names an Ecovacs Deebot T90 Pro Omni, a Mova P10 Gen 2, a yeedi M14 Plus and a Dreame D30 Ultra CE.
• Owners talk about upkeep more than suction. The top-scoring comment in the 14 Jun thread says: “Auto draining. I wish I bought the one with it so I don’t have to empty the dirty water tank from the dock once it’s filled. Oh god the stench… especially after days and days of cleaning” Digital no-go zones and fitting under furniture follow among the higher-scoring answers.
• Reliability claims are anecdotes. One commenter says neither Roborock nor Dreame publishes reliability data. That is the commenter’s statement and was not checked here.
• Mopping reduces work but opinions differ on how much. Some owners say it replaces floor cleaning; others say it supplements it.

Roborock

Roborock appears mostly through Qrevo-family machines, with mixed outcomes, so the threads support no blanket verdict.

• A commenter on 31 Dec 2025 writes: “My Q Revo replaces all cleaning. I don’t do any floor cleaning now.”
• On 23 Jan 2026 another writes: “My Roborock S5 vacuums have lasted for 6+ years and both still going strong but I feel these new vacuums are significantly more complicated so I am less confident in that being the case here”
• In the 29 Mar 2026 thread, the original poster reports a LiDAR rotation error on a Q Revo bought at Costco that support troubleshooting did not fix. This is one unit.
• “Q Revo” in a thread can mean quite different machines. Roborock’s support pages list the plain Qrevo at 5,500 Pa maximum suction and the Qrevo Master at 10,000 Pa; see the Qrevo comparison page (checked 22 Oct 2026).

Dreame

• “My Dreame 50 Ultra hasn’t choked on dog hair yet, and it’s been going On for about a year.” (30 Mar 2026; spelling as posted)
• Against that, one commenter in the 16 Jan 2026 thread writes: “I had sent back the x40 for an l40 and had sent that back and they gave me an x50 which also went back.” They also say both robots they were comparing left dog hair behind.
• In the Refurb Qrevo vs L40 thread, a commenter describes two refurbished X40 Ultras whose front-wheel housings cracked after about a year and a half, replaced under a third-party extended warranty. Another commenter in that thread calls it a possible design defect in the L40/X40. Neither claim was checked against Dreame.
• Dreame’s own store pages for the L20 Ultra and X40 Ultra showed them as sold out on 22 Oct 2026, so threads recommending them may point at discontinued or hard-to-find units.

iRobot and Roomba

Reaction to iRobot in these threads is mostly about the company’s decline, not about a specific current model.

• On 15 Dec 2025 one commenter writes of switching brands: “We were a Roomba household for over 10 years. (3 Roombas + Braava Jet in that time) Now I’m with Mova its is so far ahead of what those Roombas were.”
• Another writes: “IMO there is more to it than complacency. There are currently no manufacturers outside of China that are competing against the big robot vacuum names.” That is an opinion, not a checked market claim.
• On 4 Sep 2026, in the thread on a new Roomba concept shown at IFA 2026, a commenter writes: “Not sure that I can trust this company again, until real reviews show that they’ve gotten serious.” The most-upvoted comment in that thread is a short reaction (“This is absurd. I love it”).

• iRobot filed for Chapter 11 on 14 Dec 2025. The Robot Report (23 Jan 2026) says it emerged from a pre-packaged Chapter 11 as a privately held company wholly owned by contract manufacturer Shenzhen Picea Robotics, still based in Bedford, Massachusetts, with a U.S. data-protection unit called iRobot Safe.
• The Amazon acquisition was terminated on 29 Jan 2024; Amazon never completed it, so no Amazon ownership of iRobot exists.
• The iRobot Select page says it is not accepting new subscriptions, and The Verge reported sign-ups ended on 14 Feb 2024. Select is closed to new members, so it is not a current purchase consideration.

Shark, Eufy and Narwal

These brands appear in the sample mainly in the thread where a commenter pasted company statements about the FCC action, copied from a Mashable report. Shark’s statement as pasted says: “Our Shark robot vacuums currently sold in the U.S. will continue to be available for sale, use, and support.” A Narwal Flow 2 and a Narwal Freo X10 Pro are mentioned as owner suggestions or past purchases in the baby-and-dog thread, and a Eufy E25 owner appears in the mopping thread. The sample says too little about these brands to compare them.

Is the advice on r/RobotVacuums trustworthy?

The threads themselves are divided. The 10 May 2026 opening post argues that brand-linked accounts skew the subreddit and tells buyers to “just buy whatever you like”. One recommendation in the 30 Mar 2026 thread ends with an offer to arrange US deals by private message, a pattern a reader may want to treat with caution. This page cannot tell which accounts are paid, and neither can the commenters. Treat any comment, including those quoted here, as one person’s claim.

The July 2026 FCC action

On 28 Jul 2026 the FCC added foreign-produced advanced robotic devices to its Covered List (DA 26-786). Per the notice, all foreign-produced advanced robotic devices are covered unless the Department of War transmits to the FCC a specific determination that a given device or class does not pose the risks described. A companion notice, DA 26-789, says advanced robotic devices authorized before 28 Jul 2026 may continue to receive software and firmware updates that mitigate harm to U.S. consumers at least until 1 Jan 2029. An FCC spokesperson told FOX Business that robotic vacuums are covered. The effect on US stock and prices has not been verified here, and the thread titled “The US government just banned Roombas” is a headline, not the notice’s wording.

What this means for a purchase

• Compare exact models, including suffixes. Qrevo, Qrevo S Pro and Qrevo Master are different machines.
• Check prices and availability on the maker’s US store; sale prices quoted in threads age quickly. On 22 Oct 2026 Roborock’s US store showed the S8 MaxV Ultra out of stock, so a “sale price” recommendation may no longer be buyable.
• Check the warranty route. Several commenters mention refurbished units sold with third-party warranties.
